
Betty Atkinson
Foundation Board Member
Betty is a long-time resident of Lawrenceville, having moved to Gwinnett County upon marrying a native of the area. She attended Berry College and is a graduate of Oglethorpe University. She is retired from a career that spanned many years with the Georgia Department of Labor. She held positions which included: Vocational Counselor, Marketing Representative, and Director of Employment Services and Job Training. She worked closely with county and state agencies in the coordination of job placement programs. Betty has always been an active presence in her community. She has taught in Gwinnett County Public Schools, has been an active member of local PTAs, and was a charter member of the Lawrenceville Junior Women’s Club. She is a 2001 graduate of Senior Leadership Gwinnett. She has served as Chair of the Steering Committee of Senior Leadership and currently serves on their Board of Trustees. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Hudgens Center for the Arts. Betty has a passion for travel and a love of books. She is a member of several local book clubs. She has been an active member of Gwinnett Friends of the Library. She was appointed to the Gwinnett County Public Library Board of Trustees in 2011 by the Gwinnett County Commission Board and has served as Vice Chair of the Library Board since 2012. She has been instrumental in helping to form a Gwinnett County Library Foundation. She volunteers with numerous community organizations. Betty and her husband, Bill, are proud parents of four children and three grandchildren. They reside in Lawrenceville and are active members of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church.
