Theresa Bailey
Foundation Board Member
My name is Theresa L. Bailey. I am a lifelong Gwinnettian and so were my late parents, Frank and Evelyn Bailey, who were prominent business owners of the African American community. I have two wonderful sons, the late Perry Jr. and Taylor. I am a voracious reader and have turned my home into a library of sorts dedicated to the memory of my parents who fostered my love for reading. As a result, I don’t go a week without buying a book!
I am privileged to serve as the chairwoman of the committee formed to preserve the only African American institution in Gwinnett County; The Hooper-Renwick Preservation Committee. My mother was a member of the first graduating class in 1941. Gwinnett County approached the City of Lawrenceville and the HRPC and as a result, the county will also build their next library on the site, The Hooper-Renwick Themed Library to showcase the history of African Americans in Gwinnett County. So, you see, I am so honored to serve on the Gwinnett County Public Library Foundation Board.
I am a 30 year plus federal employee, working in the Civil Rights department as a Counselor. I am a US Air Force veteran and was a member of the US Air Force tennis team. My greatest achievements were to give birth to two of the most wonderful people in the World. I cherished them and was honored to have nurtured them. They were and are, the delight of my life. Perry Jr passed away on September 11, 2012. I formed a foundation to his memory. His brother, C. Taylor lives here in Atlanta, Georgia. He is an Engineer and owns a business coaching gymnastics.
I am an ordained minister, writer, avid golfer, and orator. I enjoy writing and publishing inspirational and encouraging stories and poems. I also have bible studies in my home as I thoroughly enjoy sharing the gospel in a practical way. I love to cook and I love traveling with my friends and son.
My goal has always been to make a difference in serving Gwinnett County. I feel that being a part of the Gwinnett County Library Foundation and making a difference with the library system is the best way to give back to the community. I am grateful for this privilege and delighted to serve.
